What is your educational and work background?
I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and a minor in both Spanish and African American studies. I then fulfilled my childhood dream by earning my DVM from Tuskegee University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. I previously practiced as a small animal practitioner in Atlanta, Georgia.
What made you decide to become a vet?
Like most veterinarians, I've had a passion for animals since I was very little, so I always knew I wanted to be a veterinarian. I come from a family of dog lovers, and we had guinea pigs and a string of rescue pups growing up. In high school, I got an opportunity to shadow my local veterinarian and fell in love with the profession.
Why did you decide to join the Companion team?
I was looking to relocate to the Chicagoland area and visited a few hospitals. I was really impressed by Companion Animal Hospital’s level of patient care and the great people that work together here.
Do you have any special interests in vet medicine?
I really enjoy practicing surgery and dentistry because of the immediate relief I can often provide patients when they are suffering. I also enjoy working with senior pets to ensure they are comfortable and thriving in their later years.
What is the most unusual pet you have helped treat?
Probably a wildebeest in South Africa. We tranquilized them to collect routine lab work samples.
What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?
I enjoy watching TV / movies, trying new restaurants around the city with my boyfriend, traveling in the States and internationally, and snuggling with my rescue pup Honey.
Favorite place to visit?
That’s a tough question for me. I think my favorite place that I have visited so far is probably Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania. I’ve also visited South Africa and Egypt. I also really enjoy spending time in the Caribbean. I’ve been to Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and the US Virgin Islands so far. I would like to visit West Africa and probably Thailand up next.
Favorite food?
I love love love tacos!
